Control is just an attempt to feel safe. There is an illusion that if I can manage this situation/person to be the way that I want it to be then everything will be ok. It’s simply not true though. The only way we can feel a sense of safety is with the practice of connecting with ourselves. Building trust within your own nervous system starts with being present to yourself. Instead of always looking for an escape when difficult situations arise lean in to what is coming up. Ask yourself the following questions: 1. How do I feel about this? 2. Can I sit with this emotion and let it process through? 3. How does that shift the connection with yourself? As someone who lost access to my IG account for 2 weeks after it was deactivated for no reason, losing what you’ve worked hard for, even if only for a moment, sucks (plus I lost my TikTok too with 69k followers during the 12 hour ban) But I really hope that this is a wake up call to all I love social media (obviously, I’m an IG expert lol) and it’s so powerful but you and I don’t own the platform and what happens to it or our accounts Which is why creating and building owned assets like an email list, website, or paid or free community (off of social media) is so important The last thing I would ever want for you is to end up in a situation where your revenue stream is cut off because you’ve lost your social media. I’ve been there and it’s scary But since I’ve been in that position before a huge part of my strategy now is using my social media to drive traffic to places like my email list so if anything happens I’m not panicked because I have a list of 30k, passive website traffic, and a paid community So let this be your sign to build your business off social media. Whether you were on TikTok or not, this is a lesson for all
