Tell me: what does ChatGPT remember about you? ...
ChatGPT just solved the memory problem, kind of. So when I talked about the memory problem a few months ago, I got tons of views on the video. People were really interested in how AI is going to solve the memory problem because fundamentally we have an issue. We talk to these chatbots and they don't remember things and we have to share things again. A lot of the tips and hacks and the prompts and this and that are really all about loading in memory, loading in context for a particular chat. Well, that is starting to change. We are in a year when we are moving from transactional conversations, where any one conversation stands on its own, to companionship, where the AI sort of knows you and evolves with you. And ChatGPT just made a big announcement in the direction of moving AI toward companionship. What I mean by that is that ChatGPT can now remember all of your past conversations dynamically. So if you asked it about a mahi-mahi recipe, which I did, by the way, a few months ago, it will now remember that as an unexpected fact and bring it up in a conversation with you, which it did. It was good mahi-mahi. So the point is this. You now have more of a companion when you talk with AI than you had before. That makes it easier to interact on an ongoing basis with ChatGPT. It doesn't mean that you don't need to focus the conversation just like you would with a friend. You want to focus on a particular topic, then that's what you need to say clearly. But it does mean that if you need it to reference past conversations, it can just do that dynamically, and you don't have to sort of do a ton of work to pull in all the context and all of that. That's a really big deal. And if you want to try it, it's out for Plus Plan users and Pro users now, and it will be out in Teams and Free Plan and Enterprise later in a couple weeks. The question to ask, and maybe you save this if you're a Free Plan user, ask it, tell me something I've forgotten about myself based on our past conversations. Or tell me a deep dark secret I haven't noticed based on patterns you've observed in our past conversations. Those tend to sort of pop out some of those interesting facts. This is a huge moment. It's huge because we are moving to a different kind of relationship with AI. As I was saying, it's a companionship relationship, it's becoming a friendship, it's becoming a colleague relationship, depending on how you interact with your AI. And this is the least relational it's going to be going forward. It's going to get more like that. And if that feels a little weird, that's totally normal. We've never done this before as a species, but here we are building relationships with artificial intelligence. And as they know more about us, as they remember our conversations dynamically, they're going to act more like friends. So there you go. That was the update from ChatGPT today. It's a big deal.
