The clip will never return to its original position because when you're trying to pinch it closed it bottoms out against the inner surface and has some inherent springback. That small little issue is something we thought a lot about when we were designing our very first funny clip. What if this top plane and this bottom plane could slide past each other? This is like from Kraykiel early days. We like hollowed out the center. Additionally, we added in this tapering so that when you fold them there's basically this offset. Let's say that again in this scenario you stuff it with too much cash and it ends up bent out of place. That offset allows you to like squeeze it beyond the lane where they would normally hit and so you can get it back into this place where it would normally pinch even just a couple bills. This general design has gone through a lot of iterations and evolutions to get to the current titanium version which has a more durable, reliable spring and springback. Even so, life happens when you carry things with you every single day and just having that ability that allows you to pinch it back a little bit tighter I think still is a really useful nice detail and so we've preserved that. When you have a good clip in your life it makes you more frustrated when you interact with bad clips in your life. Why can't more clips be like the station money clip? Can they?
