The land was $1,360/acre, all-included… hidden ...
My dad found this old, abandoned farm for $1,300 an acre, all included. But hidden within was a hand-hewn, Dutch timber-framed barn, built in 1910 on the brink of collapse. We disassembled and restored every beam, poured a foundation, then reassembled it piece by piece, adding epic windows to capture the Idaho countryside. But while waiting for those windows, which were delayed, my older brother John built a three-story silo next door. Well, actually, the first floor was a commercial kitchen, and the second and third were luxury suites. My mom tackled the old farmhouse next door, stripping away vinyl siding and paneling to reveal its original charm. My mom furnished every corner with period antiques, and now we rent it out on Airbnb. Today, Morning Glory Farm is one of the country's most spectacular wedding venues. And on occasion, my mom and sisters host high teas at the farmhouse with homemade pastries. Plans for a Yupik orchard, gardens, and a full farm hospitality experience are underway.
