learning how to get the trail arm back in front during the downswing. Specifically, the secret is learning how to get the trail elbow back to what we call the midline of the body during the downswing. So we have to then manually think about and get the arms back in front. How do we do it? Here's this three-part drill. So first we remove any body motions, then we'll add them in. I want you to take your lead hand and kind of put it in your sternum, and I want you to take your right arm in this position, and I want you to make a motion with your right arm where you get your elbow from the right side of your body to the middle. So we did this about three times. One, two, three. So the next part of this is you take this hand in front. Now I'm going to add some chest turn, which I will have during the downswing. Turn your hand towards the target until it's about, you know, a few feet out in front of you and still get the arm to hit the chest. Okay, so I'm still feeling this arm going across my body as my chest is turning. Now as I'm doing it, I'm going to feel the same thing, but I'm going to allow the right arm to straighten, and I'm going to allow the right wrist to throw. Now if I take that down to this position down here, what I would be feeling is the elbow hitting the hand, the core and the chest are turning, and the arm and the wrist are releasing. So this is the motion. This is the motion. This is the motion. And this is how we learn how to get the arm in front, not tucked down, not jammed down in the hip. It's in front of us. This arm has to work independently forward if you currently aren't doing that and you're struggling with solid contact. The reason we have to work the arm forward is to be able to get the handle forward, some shaft lean. The reason we need some shaft lean is to go ahead and hit the ball first and the ground second, de-loft and compress the golf ball. So we started to hit with sort of, yeah, these little half to three-quarter shots, really feeling the right elbow back to the midline.
