What Are These Toe Taps in the Back Swing?? It ...
What are these foot taps that a lot of my students are doing? Let me explain. When a golfer comes to me and their backswing looks like this, with the weight pressure going towards the toes and their head creeping past the original head line, I give them 2 drills. The first one is the doorframe drill, where I have them place their head slightly off the doorframe, no club and set up with their hands on chest. Then I tell them to create a backswing without their head crashing into the frame. This creates a proper backswing turn and allows them to have space for their arms to swing down, as opposed to their head creeping forward, then needing to make compensations during the downswing. Then I get them to perform the same drill, but this time at the top of their turn, produce a few toe taps. The toe taps ensures that the weight physically cannot be on their toes, which helps prevent the head from creeping forward and also the butt from early ascending. Once they've done a lot of reps on the doorframe and feel comfortable, I get them to implement the same drill feeling with a club in their hands, and then eventually hit balls like this. This is awesome for golfers whose head creeps forward and their weight pressure travels towards their toes in the backswing.
