Here's a thought experiment that I think reflects the near future, bear with me. It's winter, it's cold, say 10 degrees Fahrenheit, it's night time. There's a small community of about 80,000 people that are relying on power to stay warm at night. There's a data center close by, just outside the city. It's on the same power grid. That data center is used to house sophisticated artificial intelligence systems. Those systems are used by healthcare providers across the country to provide rapid diagnosis to patients in need of them. The data center and subsequent AI companies using that data center provide roughly, let's say, $200,000 in revenue to the community. The community members, through taxes, provide roughly $50,000 in revenue to the community. Power is running low. There's not enough power on the grid to provide heating for the community and energy to the data center for the AI to run. Who gets the power?
