The atypical advice here is that ongoing maintenance is often more work than the actual implementation. Partly because these systems are all so new, partly because thats just how AI works. Charge accordingly. #rachelwoods #chatgpt #aiops #aiforwork #promptengineering #openai #gpt #ai #aiconsulting

If you want to start a consulting business around AI, here's how I would structure it. And I'm talking like helping businesses implement chatbots, automations, prompt libraries, and this comes from me personally working with tons of businesses this year so far and seeing the ongoing management and work that's requiring for us to use our own internal AI powered systems. So the biggest thing is you're going to want to charge for upfront implementation, but more importantly, I would charge a retainer for the ongoing maintenance and management of these systems. You're going to want to include things like managing and monitoring costs, updating to the latest models and latest techniques for prompting, running tests on a regular basis to guard against prompt drift, and generally ensuring that the performance doesn't degrade. How much you can charge does depend on kind of your level of expertise and the size of the companies that you're serving, but I think it's very attainable to get to 10 to 15 to 20k a month on a set of those services.
