It a new thing and it’s not ChatGPT OpenAI just...
So today, OpenAI did not release a new chat GPT. Instead, they released a new API for developers, a couple of them actually, and they're focused on enabling AI agents to more easily and more safely search the web, browse files, complete tasks, things that are outside the chat window. And if you're wondering, like, how does that work, Stripe has a demo up that is quite something. They have an AI agent that they've been able to use that can find an invoice, it reads a spreadsheet, it can handle rebilling for a customer, all 100% autonomously. And so I think you're going to see more attention here than would normally be warranted, because OpenAI is OpenAI. If you're wondering if this is the first of its kind, it's not. Claude has the model context protocol. There's an entire agent ecosystem built around LengChain and LengGraph. And so what you're signing up for with OpenAI is basically their ecosystem. If you are an OpenAI shop, this is a great day for you because it makes it much easier to build AI agents on top of OpenAI. If you want a little bit more flexibility in the model you choose, you might go with some of the others. I wrote up a totally free substack on this that you can check out that compares, like, where are we at in 2025, right? LengGraph versus Claude MCP versus OpenAI agents. What does it mean to pick one? What are their strengths? What are their weaknesses? How do they actually work? So if that's something you're interested in, that's great. If it's not, I don't care. And mostly I just want you to remember that this is going to be a hotly competitive space, and we're going to see more of these agent releases. When venture capitalists say 2025 is the year of the agent, that means these kinds of tools get released a lot. So OpenAI, I think, timed this because a lot of the news came out in the last week or so around how well the model context protocol from Claude was doing, which is sort of the direct competitor. And, like, they don't want to be caught out, right? OpenAI wants to make that response chess move. So we'll see where we end up.
