Which ChatGPT model should you use? With so man...
So if you've checked out ChatGPT lately, you've probably gone up here and looked at the models and asked, what the heck am I supposed to choose? And it can be kind of confusing, right? You have the 4.0 series, the 0.1, and the 0.3. But which is best for what scenario? Well, let me tell you. And I'll also show you some stats at the end. So first off, if you're doing any sort of coding, 0.3 high is going to be your best option. It scores the best across all the models when it comes to coding. And if you're using it with any sort of API call, it's actually pretty cheap as well. So next up, if you're doing any sort of reasoning, anything complex, anything to do with math, 0.1 is your best bet. It's the most robust model, but it's also the most expensive. Its output for 1 million tokens on the API call is about $60, which is super steep. Compare that with the 0.3 series, which is about $4. So where does that leave 4.0? Well, 4.0 is the most robust when it comes to multimodal stuff. And that means, like, if you had an Excel file that you wanted ChatGPT to take a look at, 4.0 is the only model that could actually look at it and start doing some analysis. 0.1 and 0.3 don't have the capabilities. 0.3 really can't take a lot of files at all. 0.1 is somewhere in the middle, but if you have a specific file that 0.1 or 0.3 can't handle, 4.0 definitely can do it, and that's where it shines. And in terms of price, it's also the lowest. So here's a look at the actual stats when you compare them head-to-head, and you'll see it kind of paints the same picture of what I was talking about, where the 0.3 miniseries is really good at coding, but the 0.1 does really well at reasoning and math, and 4.0 is behind all of them. So hopefully that alleviates some of the confusion next time you're on ChatGPT trying to figure out what model to use, and lastly, make sure to check out the AI community in my profile. Thanks!
