This is the story of the year in AI—2025 won’t be the same ⚔️ The hunt for AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) is like the battle for the Iron Throne—a high-stakes game where only the most powerful survive. In 2024, Google made its move, unleashing some of the most game-changing AI tech we’ve ever seen. First up, Gemini 2.0, their most advanced AI yet. It’s not just another chatbot—it’s multimodal, meaning it processes text, images, and even audio seamlessly. Its agentic AI capabilities allow it to perform tasks across platforms and use tools natively, pushing Google ahead in the AI race. They also launched Gemini API for developers through Google Cloud, making cutting-edge AI accessible for real-world applications. Next, Google dropped Willow, their breakthrough quantum chip. It shattered a 30-year barrier in quantum error correction, running calculations that would take a supercomputer 10 septillion years—longer than the universe has existed. This makes Willow one of the biggest stories in quantum tech ever. For creators, Google launched VideoFX and ImageFX, powered by Veo, a next-gen AI from Google DeepMind. These tools let creators turn text into video and edit images with photorealistic results. Add music mixing with MusicFX, and Google has built a whole generative media ecosystem. They also reimagined AI-powered productivity. NotebookLM evolved from a research assistant into a creative AI tool, now offering custom audio recaps called Audio Overviews—basically, your personalized AI podcast. They even partnered with Spotify to transform Wrapped into a fully AI-generated show about your top tracks. And for enterprise, NotebookLM Plus brought in serious collaboration features like shared team notebooks, analytics, and enterprise security through Google Workspace. It’s a power move for business users looking to scale their knowledge management. Now, if you’re thinking, “Why the Game of Thrones reference?” Google’s comeback reminds me of Daenerys Targaryen rising from exile to claim the Iron Throne. Gemini 2.0 and Willow are like her dragons—powerful, world-changing, and unstoppable if managed wisely. The only question is: can Google hold the throne? #product #productmanager #productmanagement #startup #business #openai #llm #ai #microsoft #google #gemini #anthropic #claude #llama #meta #nvidia #career #careeradvice #mentor #mentorship #mentortiktok #mentortok #careertok #job #jobadvice #future #2024 #story #news #dev #coding #code #engineering #engineer #coder #sales #cs #marketing #agent #work #workflow #smart #thinking #strategy #cool #real #jobtips #hack #hacks #tip #tips #tech #techtok #techtiktok #openaidevday #aiupdates #techtrends #voiceAI #developerlife #got #gameofthrones #ironthrone #danaerys #cursor #replit #pythagora #bolt

Google is like Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones. If the race for AGI is the Iron Throne, they started out with an incredible position. So artificial general intelligence is the goal everyone's going for. Google had all the researchers, they had this whole lab called DeepMinds, and they just couldn't get it done. Chad GPT got shipped by open AI. The joke was on Google. Google's researchers were apparently off taking snowboarding trips for six weeks. That is actually a real anecdote that I heard about. And at the end of the day, the value that Google was supposed to deliver to the world with all of this intelligence and all of this compute just wasn't there. But 2024 has been a comeback year. Don't count Google out. This whole 12 days of open AI thing? What we're remembering is what Google shipped, not what open AI shipped so far. Yes, they shipped O1, but they'd hinted at that really heavily. And the stuff that Google has been shipping is absolutely incredible. They redid the notebook LM interface, which is like the least of what they did. They shipped an entire new multi-tool platform that's all about visuals that has like this new tool that allows you to put together multiple images with AI called WISC. They have a tool called ImageFX, which is, frankly, the easiest way to generate images I've seen. Before you would have to go to like MidJourney and go into a Discord and all of that. This is just incredibly high quality images that are super easy to create. They have now a video tool, Veo2, I don't know, V-E-O-2, or VideoFX. It's apparently going by multiple names, of course. And it's amazing. It's so good. One of the tests right now for how you worry about video and how you make video really good is giving it a prompt that involves multiple movements and seeing if that prompt actually delivers a convincing illustration of what is going on in a photorealistic way. As an example, if you ask the video AI of your choice to show a chef slicing a piece of steak with a knife, you are doing multiple movements. The steak needs to move a little bit as the knife slices. The knife needs to move in the right way. It needs to move through the steak in a convincing manner. You have to have the elements of the world, like the steam needs to come up. And this is a real prompt I have been looking at, by the way. And I saw it across multiple models, like six different models. And you know the only one that got it in any way convincing? It was Google. Yeah, VideoFX. Really, really good. They launched real-time streaming with voice like that. I did a whole sort of video on that, right, where you can talk to Gemini and ask Gemini what else is going on on your screen. You could talk to Gemini about what's in your fridge and ask what's for dinner. And it's so fast, apparently people are asking Google to slow down the large language model because it's breaking the streaming interface. And so look, the 12 days of OpenAI aren't over yet. We will see what we're talking about at the end of the week. But I gotta say, Google is coming back with a dragon like Daenerys Targaryen. We'll see what the race for the Iron Throne really looks like in 2025, the race for general intelligence. But Google has made an incredible comeback in the last month of the year. Don't count them out. Go check out what they're building. Cheers.
