So why amateur golfers can't swing like the pros is really really simple and that's they don't understand how the pros are actually making their golf swing work. Amateur golfers might try to copy the top players let's say how a player gets open clears their hips going through the golf ball let's say a Dustin Johnson for example they'll try to copy that and quickly realize they can't do that but they don't quite understand and dive into how does a player like that even make it happen. So you can swing like the golf pros if you understand how they make these movements work. Now you absolutely can swing more like the pros like we're talking about there you've just got to understand how they make it work. So we're going to talk about a couple things here that you can have in your golf swing that all these pros have commonalities with. There might be a few outliers who don't but most of them do and one of them is turning really nicely through the golf ball. They all have this nice continuous rotation through the golf ball. So like I gave the analogy at the beginning Dustin Johnson getting very open he's one of them that does. Some of these are a little bit unachievable like Dustin Johnson but we can all continue to keep our rotation going through the swing but that's not where I'm just going to tell you to do a rotation drill like the preset impact drill and go about doing it. No we've got to understand how to rotate how are these players continuously rotating because I can guarantee you're not doing that. So there is a couple things from there you need to have square club face something we see all the top players have they'll have a square club face they might not all have a square club face at the exact same time but coming into impact their club face will be nicely square tracing the arc so a square club face guys does not mean square to the target for as long as possible it means square to the swing arc so that's where the club face will look a little bit open prior to impact it will be pointing a little bit left after impact it's square to the arc so I have a saying on my channel and that is have your club face as square as you can as early as you can I like to see players have it early but we can see some tall players do it later but easier for you to do it early so if we can get this club face to where it's slightly toed down towards the ground here with a groove that's slightly pointed down matching my spine angle which means it's square to the arc if I can do that then there's a good chance I'm going to keep it square for the entirety of the swing so why is that helpful because then it helps us to be able to continue to turn if I can have my club face matching that swing arc tracing that swing arc square to it then I don't need to do anything to be able to try to square up last minute I can just turn through that golf ball and it's going to remain square in relationship to that swing arc so a little drill you can just get to shaft parallel to the ground make sure that club face is matching your spine angle get to there swing up and turn through then you'll have a much better chance of having that square club face which all the pros do but very few amateur golfers do so to celebrate 3000 online lessons being given on Skillist I'm running a sale so that sale is 20% off and it will be off all lesson options so lessons and subscriptions so if you want to make some crazy improvements like you're seeing with my student videos that I've been putting out you can absolutely do that and discount it but it's only for this week so if you want them act fast let's get working so the second component that the top players have that amateur golfers certainly don't why you can't swing like them is your transition so how you start off your downswing so we're talking about the pros and how when they start their downswing their lower body mid torso is unwinding it's turning and the upper body and arms are staying where they are in that first move that then helps that club fall and shallow and then stay on path and then you can of course continue to turn through got that nice square club face you don't have to square anything else up after that but amateur golfers what are you doing you are overly rotating the chest too early is very common we'll see a golfer or just really pull down with their arms that's something a lot of golfers are trying to do pull the hands dead straight down or everything will just move all in unison because you're trying to rotate without knowing how rotation actually works so get that lower body and mid torso really separating and really turning that's how you can then swing a lot more like the pros so lower body mid torso turning to start that downswing really gets these nice whippy shots going through the golf ball brilliant drill to do for this you could do this anywhere this drill don't have to be at the driving range to be able to do it grab a resistance band grip it here and then you're in this kind of makeshift top of the backswing get into a full top there and then start to unwind that lower body mid torso because i'm grabbing onto resistance band can't do anything with my arms so now i'm forced to just turn so if i can rep that out then i'm going to get this lower body mid torso separating this is going to help me club on a good path like the pros do effortlessly shallow the golf club like again they do very effortlessly and i'll be able to continue my rotation going through functionally because i've started it in a good way so that's where ultimately why amateur golfers can't swing like the top pros is because they're looking at it to surface level you've got to look into it a little bit more and then you'll start putting the pieces together to get those good body movements they do in the downswing you should do x y and z there's a lot more to it than square club face and just moving in the downswing with the sequencing but you'll be a lot better if you go about doing that so look at the smaller details think why are they doing what they're doing or if they're a golfer who has a different move let's say a unique swing on tour rather than just saying swing your swing understand why are they making that unique move work how are they doing it what's happening to their club shaft what's happening to their club face what's happening to the depth of their arms how is their sequencing working how are they moving in their body orientation going through the golf ball to make certain movements work you've got to look at all of those before you go and just go okay he does that i'm going to copy that or just thinking amateur golfers can't swing like that certainly you can swing in the optimal way if you want to you've just got to get the right things in place so if you enjoyed this video click that like button for more golf instruction just like this
