I almost don’t want to share this information… ...
I've been a creator for seven months now, and I've met a lot of creators, follow a lot of creators, and the typical creator path is to sell courses, which have a low completion rate, usually burns out a lot of students, do coaching, do consulting, which is usually not impactful because what difference can you make in a 30-minute session? Or to do affiliate links and sponsorships, which aren't meaningful amounts of money unless you have many, many followers. I think the biggest missed opportunity across the board is that creators aren't building products. I honestly believe more creators should build products because over the years that you build it up, you're actually building an asset and you have a ton of optionality later on. You could sell the assets, you could bring in somebody to continue running it, and go on existing and growing with or without you. Keep in mind the burnout rate for creators is very high. In five or 10 years, a lot of creators won't still be creating. But imagine if you spent that five to 10 years also building a product that is valuable that you could sell later on for a multiple of revenue. For example, if you grow a B2B SaaS product to 1 million in annual recurring revenue, you could potentially sell it from 5 to 15 million because of the multiples on the revenue. And you're utilizing your advantage as a creator to de-risk the most important thing, which is, does anyone want your product? Since you have a captive audience, you can get immediate direct feedback from your audience. Keep iterating until the product's actually good. Continue scaling the product beyond your own audience and limitations. I think a lot of creators don't see this opportunity because they may not have product or tech background, but you don't necessarily need to be the one building the product. You can partner with someone else or hire a team to build initial versions. Again, validate it very quickly with your audience. Ramp up the initial revenue very quickly just with your audience. So that's my two cents for any creators listening. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions.
