Why would Facebook allow Llama 3 to be open source? If you have a large enough server, you could download the big boy and have access to it all. Like, why would they allow that? Essentially in software, you have two approaches. One is closed source and the other one is open source. So open source essentially give you everything and then you build from there and that helps the community. I think open source is extremely important for the industry being able to share because at the end of the day, Facebook did something tremendous, like sharing its models, opening to the world is amazing. And then also, yeah, you have the other model where kind of you have the closed source. Being able to leverage the community and being able to share and then that increases your speed of innovation as well.
