Hearing about moments like these from my students is why teaching my “meditation for the journey” class is so meaningful. Let's say hypothetically that you're trip-sitting for a friend, in some place where it's legal to do so, of course. If you have a good meditation practice, you might end up entering a shared space where there's co-regulation and entrainment. Part of the reason we meditate is so that we can get out of the relentless chatter of our thoughts and be aware of the greater field that's going on around us. And if you're hanging out with somebody who's on psychedelics, that field can get really interesting. For example, you might be meditating and your mind quiets and you enter this vast energetic field of pulsation. And there are these peaks and valleys and arcs and waves. And then you open your eyes and just at the same time as you open your eyes, your friend opens their eyes and you realize you had the same experience and you both go, whoa. So this is one of the reasons why meditation is really useful. You're just going to have more fun with your mind in general. And this is why I offer the meditation for the journey class. There's a Rumi quote where he says, when you quiet your mind and you look inside, the entire universe will roll at your feet, offering itself to you. Who doesn't want that?
