Here's why Sand Valley changed me forever. My most recent trip to Sand Valley started like many other golf getaways. Four buddies, scattered across the country, finally making time for something we've talked about for years. The first day on the course, I was ready to compete, but something unexpected happened. Instead of focusing on my game, I noticed the joy on my friends' faces. For them, this was their first trip to a dream golf destination, and it felt like honestly taking your kids to Disneyland for the first time. I got more enjoyment from seeing their excitement than worrying about my score. It was like we were kids again. But as much as I tried to hold on to the calm, I slipped into my old habits, and after a strong start on my next round, I began focusing on my score. I wasn't frustrated with my game as much as I was disappointed in myself for forgetting why I was there in the first place. You know, it's funny how life works. I came for the golf, but I remember the moments in between, the dinners, the little poker game in Mammoth Bar, watching my buddies see Signature Hole for the first time.
