If you're like me, you learn concept better by seeing them in practice, so here's a 60 second walkthrough example of setting up an MCP server in your IDE and how it's useful. Brave is just one MCP server, it's essentially a safe web browser API. There are hundreds (thousands?) more MCP servers out there to play with, but setup should be approximately the same. #mcp #modelcontextprotocol #ai #aitools #tech #cursor #ide #coding #code #llm #techexplained

Here's how to set up your very first MCP server. In this video, I'm going to use Cursor to enable the Brave MCP server so that you can conduct web searches from your IDE. So the first thing you want to do is press Command-Shift-P to open the settings and then go to the MCP tab. You'll want to click Add a Global MCP Server and then paste in this JSON here. You'll see that I already have my API key here, but to get your own API key, you'll have to go to the Brave API search. You'll create an account and then generate a key for free. Then paste that key into server and then click this icon here to toggle open your AI chat bar. Now you can type in a question like, what was the Rotten Tomatoes rating on the most recent Minecraft movie? Click Run and Cursor will hit the Brave MCP server to get you that response.
