TikTok video #7327306944228871470
I lead VaynerMedia's performance media buying practice, and also Moonlight as our CEO, Gary Vaynerchuk's personal paid media buyer for all things GaryVee, its family wine business, and VeeFriends. In this quick little tutorial video, I want to show you how to use in Shopify one of Google's latest generative AI features related to generating backgrounds on product shots, and then show you how to easily incorporate them into your site catalog for all of your product detail pages, as well as flow into ads. So you can start to optimize your ads a la using a catalog feed optimization partner like a Smartly or Marpipe for free in Shopify, and it's pretty damn good. Okay, here it is. For anyone on Shopify Plus, this will look very familiar. Here, I'm going to the Google and YouTube sales channel. If you don't have this, you can set up easily through apps. I'm thinking of it the same way you think about your Facebook and Instagram shop or TikTok shop, which you see here too. The site I'm using, by the way, is VeeFriends Merch Shop, so shop.veefriends.com. You'll see here in the Google and YouTube overview, there's the Product Studio New, so you're going to want to click on that. This presupposes that you've set up the Google and YouTube catalog integration properly, which shouldn't be too tough, very similar, again, to Meta. You see here there's one of Google's experiments, which is always fun. Tap the power of AI-customized product images to attract customers and drive sales. So anyone who's used Meta's AI sandbox and their generative backgrounds feature, basically the same thing, but what I like about this is that as you make it, you can then sync it back to your Shopify product catalog, so it updates the site itself. If you're browsing the product that you've made a gen background for, you'll see all the original standard background stuff if you're a user scrolling, and then you'll also see whatever else was made here. Same thing goes to ads. So if you're using catalog ads, whether in Google Shopping, or it can also flow into Meta Advantage Plus shopping campaigns, it helps optimize your product catalog, which is kind of the most exciting part about this to me. Okay, let's get into it. All right, so you first have to select a product. I'll just choose the first one that comes up. Let's just do the content condor, crew neck. So you pick a product, and that'll populate with your Shopify product catalog. Just choose that. Now to describe the product so that Google's AI just knows, so long-sleeve black sweatshirt. Sorry if my camera's moving a little bit. Cool, now here's the fun part. Describe the scene. Let's say New York City street crosswalk. Let's try that. Generate scene. There's also a bunch of pre-populated ones that give you inspiration themes. Obviously, this is just prompt jockeying and playing around. You can do that all day. All right, Googs, see how we do here. I'd also definitely recommend playing around in Meta's version of this too. All right, here we go. So if anyone's used Midjourney before, same sort of deal where it spits out multiple versions for you to choose from, and you can also, as you go to select them, whichever one you like. Say I like this guy. You can also thumbs up and thumbs down individual pieces, and so that kind of helps train the AI a bit more. Say I like these two. You can just download them if you want the actual PNG or JPEG images, or you can save them to online stores, is what I think is really cool. And once you can start to do this dynamically, where you can do it to product sets, and then have it start to train itself and recommend things to you, that's where it gets really wild, but we're not there yet. All right, so save the generated product images to your online store. This will add the new images to your online store and keep the original. So it'll go alongside. So if you hit continue. There we go. We've successfully updated our images. So now, you can also, by the way, you can edit these, tweak them further, increase resolution. There's a good deal of functionality, and this is also standalone by Google, but I just think it's pretty cool to be seamlessly integrated into Shopify and then sync back to your catalog. So now I'll go to the product page and show you how it landed there. Now I'm in the Content Condor product detail page, and there you go. So there's all the standard white background stuff. That's all that was there before, the different colors. There's the two images we added. And so again, when users scroll through, they'll see those. And then if you're running catalog ads, Google Shopping ads for this crew neck, those will also be eligible to be rotated in. And the hope is they can boost conversion rate, right? Just a bit more interesting. And I just did one quick example here. Think about if you load this up with 20 different gen backgrounds and then give Meta and Google's algos the power to freely rotate through them. Then you apply that to the whole product catalog. It starts to get really interesting. You can kind of theme it out or just start doing simple A-B tests. That's what I'm gonna do next, just A-B tests very simply how gen backgrounds work or backgrounds work in general versus the white backgrounds. You found that interesting? I can do this one next, which is Meta's version, AI Sandbox where generative background, same sort of deal, Meta's version. But I hope you, especially Shopify Plus users found that as interesting and as frictionless as I did. I feel like it's worth testing out. It's free. This is gonna proliferate a lot across Meta, Google, TikTok, and others this year. And not just in Shopify Plus, but all these are in the native platforms themselves. And as they get trained, learn, it's moving so quickly. It's, we think, something good to get ahead of and lean into early if you can and just play around. Pretty low stakes at the moment in terms of backgrounds and gen text or cropping. We're not into full standalone videos or giving the reins away to the AIs themselves too much. Everyone has their own tolerance with these things, but let me know what you think. Thought that was cool. Let me know.
