One of the Biggest Differences between Pro Golf...
One of the biggest differences I see between pro golf swings versus amateur golf swings is how much the trail arm bends in the backswing. How much the trail arm bends has a massive influence on the swing width, swing path, club head speed and the ability to make solid contact. Pretty big deal right? Professionals bend their trail arm on average around 90 degrees, whilst most amateurs go far beyond 90, leaving them no choice but to throw away the arm bend, causing casting and all sorts of problems. To create a trail arm that bends around 90 degrees like the pros, swing back with just your trail arm so that it isn't quite 90 degrees. From there, reach with your lead arm and grip the club, trying to not bend the trail arm too much. You'll notice that you've created a much bigger turn and much more width than your current swing. This is your new backswing feel. It's okay for the trail arm to bend slightly, but try your hardest to grip the club by turning and not by just bending the arm. Do lots and lots of these reps, then try to emulate that feeling with your normal backswing. If you want to take it a step further, place a kids floatie around your trail elbow and practice the same drill. The floatie basically prevents the trail arm from bending too much and if it does bend a lot, you'll feel a whole lot of pressure and it'll feel like it's about to pop. Bend the trail arm around 90 degrees with this trail arm only drill and the kids floatie and go from no width to amazing width like the pros. Follow for more great golf tips.
