What we really should be doing in companies is making people uncomfortable, or at least comfortable with being uncomfortable. The desire to be comfortable actually trumps the desire to be good at what we do, the desire to take chances, the desire to experiment. There is a countervailing cultural trend at the moment, which is trying to reduce discomfort in group settings. We need to rehearse being uncomfortable, because the next way that you're uncomfortable is not gonna be that, it's gonna be some different way. You need to be fine with feeling a little weird about what someone's saying or doing.
