I usually avoid Southie because I get anxiety in places with a high density of whites with backward hats and generational wealth. So when I heard of this southern restaurant in Southie, I thought this must be the most racist spot in Boston. But I was surprised to see not only were there a lot of black guests, but the chef was also black and handsome. And while there were still a lot of white people, these were wearing flannels, making them seem gentle, empathetic, and the type that would feel guilty for having a Republican cousin. And as I watched black and white people experiencing joy together, I teared up wishing there were more Asians here. But then I realized that would be a disaster because they wouldn't be able to resist this delicious, rich mac and cheese and would end up having gas for weeks.
