Raise your hand in the comments if you've been personally victimized by an out-of-the-box solution that then requires you as the business users to potentially help support the tech vendor in learning about your industry. When I was selling technology, it wasn't unusual for my process consultants to have to dig into a specific process to learn the nuances, understand the lay of the land within a company, to then help design the best case future state scenario. But we were always honest about the fact that our solution wasn't coming out of the box when we started to do that because the cat will come out of the bag and people will realize that it is not an out-of-the-box solution. Part of me really wanted to say the cat will come out of the box, but like that's not the best thing. Anyhow, I get that people want to be able to make their solution sound simple, but I think that this is part of how we end up in these failures and these bad transformations in the first place because we're not having an honest conversation about what the expectations should be. Am I the only one that would rather have accurate expectations over the top of the guise of simplicity?
