Quick tip on the best hole placement for a DIY ...
Where should you drill the inlet hole on your cold plunge? Let's talk about it. I'm Joe with DIY Cold Plunge, and this is a question that I get quite often. I see a lot of people put the inlet or return on their cold plunge too high. I don't like this for a number of reasons, mainly that it splashes, it's loud, and it'll create more bubbles in your cold plunge. In online discussions, some people have tried to convince me that this is essential because it aerates the water, but the reality is, if you have a proper plumbing setup with a Venturi, that's happening in your plumbing system already. And let's face it, there's a reason that all of the cold plunge companies, hot tubs, and pools all have their return lines under the water. Some people want to put their inlet lower, but in my opinion, that's less than ideal water turnover, and having the return too low will create less of a thermal barrier disruption when you're in the plunge. The ideal placement, in my opinion, is to have your inlet or return just under the water when no one's in the tub. This eliminates all the issues that I talked about earlier and creates the best flow and thermal barrier disruption for your cold plunge experience, which, if you've listened to the last episode of JRE, you've heard Huberman talk about how important that is.
