5.30 a.m. is for those going through some shit, an unforgiving hour. It's for long-haul commuters and tech bros with their cold plunges, for marathon runners and sleepwalkers, insomniacs and parents of newborns, manual laborers and shop openers. I am none of these things. My deadlines are self-imposed and I'm not really into life optimization. And all the other hours of the day are fine, with their own variations in light and sound and scent. But I've found 5.30 a.m. to be the best hour. Because that's when the world finally shuts up and gives you just enough light to find what you're looking for.
