The Labrador Retriever is actually a product of Newfoundland, not nearby Labrador. Bred to work with fishermen, Labs are athletic dogs whose temperament is human-oriented and eager to please. They are renowned as hunting dogs, family companions, search and rescue dogs, therapy and assistance dogs, and were the most registered AKC breed for over 30 years.
