The order in which you work on your swing matters
I can pretty much guarantee that your tendency and transition to extend and move your hips in towards the ball is not the issue. And what I mean by that, it really starts with your setup position. You can see more of your lead arm underneath of your trail arm. Ideally we're able to see more of your lead arm on top of a soft trail arm. Your shoulders are slightly open. Your hands are very very high where the shaft is pointing at your belly button. And from the setup position you're going to start your backswing with your hands and your arms, which is why you snatch this club super far to the inside and underneath of the plane. You get really really shallow and you're going to over rotate and get very very long. So with all this stuff going on, most players would come down very steep and swing over the top. But you have found a way to make a compensation and move your hips in towards the ball to get the club back down onto the original plane. But we don't want to make compensations to do that. Okay, now your trail arm is trapped behind. Your lead or trail knee is pointing out towards the golf ball. You're kind of off of your trail foot here out on your toe. So you're going to have to swipe your hands into the left too early. Throw this trail arm trail hand. It's not going to be consistent. So the first thing that I want us to do, I want you to square up your shoulders. Soften this trail arm so I can see a little bit of your lead arm on top of your trail arm. Lower your hands and arms so there's more angle between your arms, hands, and club shaft. And the shaft will point right at your belt buckle. From there, we can teach you how to take the club back and start your backswing with the turning of your hips and the turning of your body rather than your hands and your arms. So a really good drill, you can put the butt of the club into your stomach and you can do some dry reps of just starting your backswing. You're going to be gripping the club down here. And start your backswing with your turn and just let your hands and arms follow. Another really good drill, you can put a ball behind the club head and drag the ball back. And don't let the ball fling too far back. Just let it roll back really softly. Right now you would fling the ball really far back behind the camera. And that is you taking that club to the inside. That is you starting your backswing with your hands and your arms.
