Happy Tax Preparation Weekend to all who celebrate. I am using ChatGPT with taxes, not because I think it can be my tax accountant, but because it's a really helpful bar for year on year how ChatGPT is getting better. So two years ago I would have laughed at the idea of using it for taxes. One year ago I tried, but the context window, the memory that ChatGPT has was too short for an extended conversation, and of course it couldn't produce actual files. This year it's at the level of a really, really smart in specific areas, but dumb otherwise intern. And so it is finding me deductions that I wasn't aware of, it is correcting me on deductions I didn't know how to apply properly, but I also need to double check all the spreadsheets it produces to make sure that it's actually doing the numbers correctly. I found an instance where it wrote up a summary that was different from the tabs in the spreadsheet, and I had to go back and tell it to move numbers around. I found an instance where it had not summed correctly. So you have to watch and be careful, but it is at the level where it's useful and it's paying for itself with the deductions it's finding.
