I often get asked why men choose to have me as a coach. It wasn’t until watching this video that I really understood one of the reasons why; I listen. For a man to just have someone listen to him is a rare occasion. Men have just as much depth, anxiety, and compassion as women, but they’re often silenced and start to ignore any of their intuitive responses to situations like this. I've had this spool of wire for like 40 years. I bought it like this a long time ago, but it's like 40 years of my life is in the wire that's gone. Does that make sense? This is what's left. I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sad for you, but you're wearing your Jets hat, and I'm a little concerned right now that you're wearing your Jets hat. I thought that's why you were crying. Okay, I'm done. This is why so many men feel rejected day after day after day, like they can't feel like they can be vulnerable with their spouse. Like the one minute that they show any form of expression, it gets minimized and rejected and shoved under the table. There are so many narratives around men being emotionless, heartless, lacking emotional intelligence, and really it's not lacking of depth that men have. It's the consideration for men and the place it puts them in to be vulnerable in the world. They have the capacity for all things, but they've learned to keep themselves dumb to keep themselves safe. Now apparently the couple has a healthy and loving relationship. The comments on the video expose the feelings of the masses of men who feel abandoned by women and feel like they cannot be themselves. It is a wake-up call to all of us to start paying attention more and to stop assuming less.
