Basically, I don’t have most of the things startups are supposed to have at this stage. Why? Because I didn’t need them. I know my numbers, my spend, my break-even point. I know what not to do to shit the bed completely. Now that I have paying customers, it actually makes sense to build projections. Before? It would’ve just been noise. Today, I shared this with another founder and she said: “Wow. Thank you for saying that.” Uh... you're welcome?? She said, no one says these things out loud; everyone seems to have it all figured out. But they don’t. The internet paints a picture of what people want you to see. Not what is actually happening behind the scenes. This is why I share as much as I can. I want to normalize this. I want people to feel comfortable talking about revenue, and lost customers, and broken funnels, and mistakes made. How will any of us learn if we don't know these things?! And don't come after me advisors, I'll make the model this weekend.
