If your CEO is sending all-caps emails to everyone in your company that we need to be AI first, and everyone in our company needs to learn AI right now, I've got some good news and bad news. First of all, hi, how's it going? I'm Phil. I'm the head of Enterprise Innovation at Zapier. I know, super formal title for someone who's just like chilling in bed, right? But I am here for good reason. I'm on bed rest because I had back surgery recently. Now I'm doing better, but I need to be horizontal for a few weeks and I figured I'd start playing around with TikTok. So, okay, good news and bad news are on everyone needing to learn AI. Bad news first, they're right. Everyone does need to learn how to use AI. Not learning how to use AI on some fundamental level outside of just using a chat GPT window in a few years is going to be like you being like, oh, I really need to build like a slide presentation for this thing. But we don't build slides, so we actually make a phone call and someone builds the slides for us and then they fax them back to us. That's how we present our slides. And when we need to make changes, we do that same process. That sounds insane, not learning the fundamentals of AI and bringing AI into orchestration outside of chat GPT in like a year or two is going to sound the same way. So you need to learn how to do it. Sorry, nothing really to do there. The good news is that it's a lot easier than your CEO's making it out to be. And they also, good news is like, CEO probably doesn't know what the hell they're talking about. They just like, some of them do, but most of them just like see the news and react and are like, we need this stuff. But they have no idea what they're actually asking for. So on that note, here's the thing. Becoming the AI transformation leader at your company that your CEO's dying to have is so much easier than people think and you can triple your salary doing it. Here's how to do it. Step one, you're in your company, you know what the company needs, you've been on the front lines, right? I don't care what level you're on, you know the company if you've been there for at least, I don't know, call it like six months. You know some challenges that you're like, oh, we wish we had software for, we wish we weren't so manual or I wish at the budget to go get software for this thing. You know what those things are, right? So all you have to do in any role is just, one, identify what those problems are, right? So, you know, what software we want to buy, what challenges would we have? Ask your manager, who to solve or automate or bring AI into one process? And it was to make dreams, like what would it be? Find something like that that you'd be passionate about solving. That's step one. Step two, take a few minutes to build stuff with Zapier, right? I'm not just saying that because I work at Zapier. I used Zapier for eight years before I started working there. So clearly a big fan and it's easier than ever because now I could literally just type sentences into Zapier and it will build AI automations and agents for you. So if you can describe what you want plain English, Zapier can pretty much do it. It's connected to over 8,000 apps. So just do that. It is way easier than you think and it's way easier than most people give it credit for and it's way more powerful than most people know. So just do that. Oh, here's the cool thing. If you don't have permission to connect Zapier to your systems yet or whatever, just use dummy information from your own Gmail account. It's that easy, right? Build a Google sheet with dummy data in it, whatever, right? And connect that just to show what's possible and start building and experimenting. I'm telling you, if you spend four or five days doing that with Zapier, if you got, you know, like, I don't know, maybe 30 minutes to an hour a day, everything will change for you and then you'll have ideas about how to build stuff. Then once you start getting the permission to build the things from your manager or whoever, then you build them. And then what's going to happen is people are going to talk about them and other people are going to have problems. They're like, hey, why don't we go to that person? Because they didn't need to go to IT. They didn't need software budget. They didn't need anything. They just were able to build it. Because by the way, you can get Zapier on like a, I don't know, like a team plan where multiple people can access it for like starting on the annual plan, like 69 bucks a month. Like it's super affordable. And so, actually, come to think about it, I think I put Zapier on my personal card when I worked at the first company I was using it at. So yeah, it's not that expensive. So people are going to come to you. They're going to want you to build stuff. You're going to go ahead and build stuff with them, right, with your managers buying. And then once you've built a portfolio of a few different things, that's when you're going to take the shift from builder to enabler. And you're going to say to, you know, your CTO, your CEO, your manager, whoever, right, you're going to build a case. And by the way, if you need help building this case, I'm really good at building it. So you should also let me know. You're going to build a case where you say, look, I know this company. I've delivered on some projects. Here's the ROI. What if everyone at the company knew how to do this? Well, now I want to go from being a builder to being an enabler where everyone can learn how to do this. That's where you become an AI transformation leader. The world needs thousands more of these. Like the appetite is way bigger than there are supply. And get this, best part. If your company says, we don't want that right now. No, thank you. Let me know.
