Most kids don’t care about playing in college. Most don’t even care about being “elite.” The majority just want to play with their friends and be active. But, in our hyper competitiveness, we’ve said kids are less than if they’re not chasing scholarships or trying to be the absolute best. That’s led to kids quitting sooner and teenagers having no place to play without committing to travel ball that takes all their time and all their parents’ money. The death of rec league is one of the worst things we've done to our kids socially emotionally and athletically Whether it's forcing competitive teams in second grade or getting rid of rec options completely for teenagers We've made it harder and harder for kids to just Play not to win not to specialize Just to play to move their bodies and laugh with their friends to stay active without worrying about being Elite we can debate the reasons all day long. We can point our fingers at travel ball. We can talk about budget cuts we can talk about parents living through their kids, but Until we agree on one thing that every kid deserves a place to play no matter their ability or ambition Nothing is going to change Adults created this mess and if we don't step up to fix it kids will continue to be the ones to pay the price Kids deserve a place to just play
