One year ago today, I posted my first video for Cat GPT, and so I thought I would commemorate the occasion by sharing the story, the untold story, of how this all started. I don't know how many of you know this, but when I was in college, I had a YouTube channel. It was in Catherine College, and if you look it up now, you'll find it, but from the year that I graduated up until about two years ago, it was deactivated. You couldn't find it if you looked for it on YouTube. I deactivated my YouTube channel, um, I deactivated my YouTube channel because the end of college was really hard for me. At the end of college, I was depressed, and when I graduated, I was invariably running away from that, and my YouTube channel felt like this big, gleaming, glittering, light post just commemorating college, and I couldn't get away from it. So I stopped making content. I stopped storytelling. I also ended up getting off of social media for completely unrelated reasons. Basically, one day I looked down at my phone and realized that the colors on the screen were more beautiful than the colors in real life, and thought that's not good, can't do that anymore, so I got off social media, and I was in this corporate tech career. I always still kind of had one foot in the media world because, you know, I was working on technical project management, but I was working at Disney, or, you know, I would be, I was the head of technical operations at a startup, but it was at a startup that did live streaming video, you know what I mean? For a long time, that level of proximity to the creative industry was enough, uh, until it wasn't. It was weird, and I didn't know what was happening at the time, but about two years ago, kind of just like a ton of bricks, I just sort of realized, like, something is missing from my life. Something big. And I had this itch to start recording videos again. It took me a year to go from, I wish I was posting videos again, to actually posting my first video on TikTok. The first video I ever posted, uh, was about rag. I posted it on TikTok. It got nothing views, it totally flopped, uh, but then the next day, I re-watched it, and I was like, god damn, I take a long time to get to the point. So then I re-recorded it, but with a much better script and a better hook, uh, which, if you didn't know, is the key, and that video got 120,000 views, I think, in a day. And that was when I realized, oh, I might be onto something. Within two weeks, OpenAI reached out from the ChatGPT TikTok account, asking if I would do a takeover on their page. I, like, can't tell you how many times I double-checked the screen, being like, does that say ChatGPT? And it literally was just off to the races.
