Most people think it’s just brand sponsorships and platform payouts... I’ve been lucky enough to spend a lot of time with some of the smartest businesspeople / cracked creators in the world, and they all have one thing in common: they own their audience. What does that mean? Taking their audience offline (yes, off social media) and onto another place (physical or digital) where they can engage, teach, communicate, bond, story tell... on their own terms. Being a creator is the most fulfilling, but also daunting thing you can do— because it’s literally a blank canvas. You can MAKE anything you want. And when it’s time to go all in, you can make a living expressing your passion in any format: Do you want to make a living teaching courses? Building communities? Coaching people 1:1? The good news is, it’s all up to you. It’s just a matter of how you want to spend your days. Because indeed— never forget— how you spend your days, is in fact, how you spend your life. Here's how creators actually make money. First off, here are the things that people usually think is how creators make their money. First, that the platform pays you. Like, Instagram or TikTok writes me a check. No, not really. Instagram doesn't pay out anything, unless you have those subscriptions toggled on. And TikTok's payout is flaky at best. And the second thing is sponsored posts. And yes, this is a huge part of the business, but I promise you, if you're just focused on that, you are missing most of the story. Okay, so here's where things really kick into gear. When you go into a creator's bio and you see that they have things listed that say a course, community, a membership, coaching, digital downloads, selling a physical product, this is where we get into the worlds of creators as entrepreneurs. This is where creators are building equity in their brand and they're owning their audience outside of social media platforms. The reason why these things are such great opportunities for creators is because you've built an audience, presumably around something that you like to talk about. If you can yap about gardening in a social media post, you can yap about it in a community or in one-on-one coaching. If social media is about sharing what you love, courses and communities and coaching are literally just different manifestations of the exact same thing. Now I know what you're thinking, how much are creators actually making off this stuff? So I got the stats. On average, creators who are selling these products on Kajabi, which is one of the platforms that creators can use to easily make and manage these products, make $190,000 a year. So yeah, when you see that a creator has one of these things in their bio, you know there's a decent chance that they are bringing home the bacon. So if you're ready to start diversifying your income streams and start taking content creation more seriously, here's some homework. Go look up three of your favorite creators who are making money. What do they offer? What products resonate with you? Which ones would you be excited to make? Write it all down and when you're ready to go from idea to reality, head over to Kajabi to get started quickly and easily.
