3 tips for better ball striking 1 Let the arms ...
In the downswing, a good thought to have is just to let those arms and hands come down to your trail pocket. So feel like those arms and hands are coming down. Notice my upper body here hasn't turned open just yet. If we do that too early, it gets harder to hit the ball. Up to the top of the swing, arms and hands come down, nice flat lead wrist. Once they're down nice and low, then we can turn as hard as we want into the ball. After impact, should we hold that angle? You want to be careful with that because sometimes the club face stays too far out in front of us. We eventually want that club to turn. We want that club to come through. So we can come into the ball with some good shaft lean. Now when we're releasing, instead of holding off, we're going to do this here with the hands. That's this motion here. As we do that, that's going to let that club get back out in front of us. Rather than if we hold that too long, sometimes that club can stay too far out. It can actually lead to some blocks or maybe even pulls because we're not releasing the club like we should in the swing. What if the swing feels pretty good and connected, but that ball is still going left and right? We can work on the takeaway in the backswing. Sometimes people think that club needs to be up to the sky, the toe of the club. In actuality, if we stand up and we put that back in front of us, you'll see that that's an open club face. What you actually want is that toe to be slightly pointed down, that leading edge to match your spine. Because now from here, if we stand up and come back in front of us, that's a nice square club face. Work on those tips one at a time and you'll start hitting some really good iron shots.
