Dont do this in your takeaway
I never want you doing this one thing in your takeaway. I never want your hands working out and away from your body. As soon as your hands work out and away from your body, the clubhead wants to do the opposite. And the clubhead wants to work behind your hands and behind your body. You can see that there. Which then causes you to get too shallow halfway back. And as soon as you get too shallow halfway back, where the shaft is pointing outside the ball, the shaft's momentum is going to come down and steepen. Where now the shaft is looking inside the ball. And as soon as you come down steep, you're going to do one of two things. You're either going to stand up and out of your posture, dump the club underneath of the plane as you come down, or you're going to stay back on your trail side and continue to rotate. Which is exactly what you do in this video. You're going to stay back on your trail side, rotate, which is why you see a lot of shots start left and slice off into the woods. Okay, so the first thing that we need to work on, we do need to do some setup work. You can see your shoulders are wide open. We do not have alignment sticks down on the ground. I want you to bend further over at the waist, maybe scoot a little bit further away from the golf ball. From there, we cannot have our hands working out and away. We need our hands working inside and around our turn. So the drill, what I want you to do is put a stick out two feet behind you, just above your hands from this down the line view. And ideally, as you take the club back, your hands are working inside of the stick and the club head is staying up and outside of the stick. Right now, and this is the point of using feedback, your hands work out and the club head would hit the stick. Now, you would have to hit the stick one time and your hour-long practice session to know that you just made the wrong swing. And then in that moment, you can make the adjustment and then spend the next 59 minutes practicing the proper way. That is the power of feedback. Now, this will get the shaft looking a little bit steeper inside the ball. We're going to get the shaft's momentum working a little bit more in your favor. No longer will the shaft want to come down as steep. And also, we can work on this club face from getting too closed in the long term.
