Have you owned an iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, iMac, MacBook, HomePod, iPod Touch, or Apple TV in the last decade? Because Apple just agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit covering all of these Siri-enabled devices. The allegations were creepy. I discussed them here. And they claimed that Apple, through Siri, was recording your private conversations and then sharing them with advertisers, allegedly. Why do I still say allegedly when this settlement is happening? Because usually, as part of the settlement agreement, the company denies wrongdoing, as Apple is doing here. But the lawsuit detailed mysterious patterns of people discussing things like Olive Garden, Air Jordans, a private medical procedure. And then somehow, ads for that item or restaurant or medical procedure would just pop up. The settlement would cover up to $20 for each Siri device, with a limit of 5 devices per household. So it's up to $100. It appears that in order to file, you would have to confirm, likely via checkbox, first that you purchased or owned one of these devices in the U.S. or its territories, that you enabled Siri on it, and that on at least one occasion, you unintentionally activated Siri during a private conversation. I'll walk you through it when the site is up, which it is not yet.
