What is the weirdest thing I could make from de...
I use denim from clothing companies who are otherwise going to throw it away and I cut through many layers at once. I mix up some resin and I pour it onto the denim. It soaks into the fibres and I stack layers of denim together in my moulds, creating denim micarta, which I machine into pieces which look like sunglasses. I assemble in bits of brass and bits of laser-cut denim micarta in this custom-built assembly jig that took me ages to make. I chop up pieces of brass and I hammer them into the frame fronts. I assemble in other pieces of brass and stainless steel springs, and other pieces of laser-cut denim micarta. I've been developing the design in my process for many, many years now. It takes two weeks from start to finish. From this point on, there's lots and lots of hand finishing to do. Here I am using a chisel, and again. I add texture to the brass and I put on a nice, shiny, waterproof finish on all the parts. Tiny little screws go into place with some fantastic screwdrivers. I then heat up the frames and I pop in the polarised lenses. I'm finally finished. Thank you. Bye!
